Duality
(January
2005)
As a
digital artist and an
electronic musician, the computer is my working tool. It's my canvas,
my brush, my color pallet as well as my keyboard and orchestra. In
reality, a computer is nothing but a sophisticated calculator. It
actually understands only two thing - the digit "0" and the digit "1".
I find this duality fascinating, this Neanderthal thinker with his two
digits as a tool for creating unlimited virtual worlds of art and
music. In this piece, I depict the computer as a rough stone, some
stone-age relic, while his screen is displaying a montage of some notes
from my music and video art of an actual work I created called "
Thorn".
I
sculptured the model of the computer using the Wings3d software and
imported it into Bryce, where I added the materials for both keyboard
and screen frame of the computer. The background was created using a
single Symmetrical Lattice, a Water Plane and the Sky controls. The
notes where taken from screen captures of Reason, the software I use to
create music. I edited the screen captures of the notes using Photoshop
Elements and added the screen capture of the video art, then I imported
the screen capture into the screen of the computer in Bryce and
rendered the work.
Software used:
- Wings3d
- Bryce
